Several internet sites have listed the
Ladybug as Iowa's state insect. That information is simply
incorrect. There is no official state insect for Iowa. In
past years constituents have asked the legislator to name the Monarch
Butterfly, the Lightening bug, and the Ladybug as the state's
insect. As of the end of the session in 2004 a state insect has
not been designated. Our campaign supports the naming of the
Ladybug to the honor. When the Wild Rose was named the state
flower the legislators did not specify which of the many varieties of
the wild rose would the be official flower although most point to the
Wild Prairie Rose as the official flower.
Information about the ladybug.
We would ask that the legislators not only designate the ladybug as the
official insect but also specify the 7 spotted red and black ladybug.
